Mirror, Mirror
Blue the wonder cat sees himself
As my husband described the mirror he wanted to create for the dressing room, my memory went to one stored in the basement. It was attached to a door that used to guard the sewing room where I used to check hemlines on dresses I made 40 years ago.
I brought it up, cleaned it off and laid it on the floor for safekeeping . Then I went to look for screws. When I came back Blue the wonder cat was walking back and forth the length of the mirror thinking we had adopted another cat. Moreover one that looks exactly like him. He got behind the mirror and could not find the other.
He helped me install it to the back of the bathroom door, slightly crooked but it will do.
He keeps going back to look for the cat as it is looking for him.
Blue is a smart cat. Will he eventually realize that is him in the mirror?
The big question is can I identify with the person in the mirror that I am now.
Stockier in winter clothes than before, but finally with a nice straight pageboy cut rather than the frizzy curls of humid summer. Why did I have to wait so long for nice hair?
Blue comes back to posturte in front of the mirrow as well. What we look like is not who we are. The mirror image is illusive but that’s okay. We know who we are.

It amazing how many versions of ourselves we have looked at over time. I wish I’d known the dress maker also! Nothing fits the way it should these days. I am grateful to know the writer.
